I don't live near but saw Local H four? five? times here. I like a good dive-y room. They could at least have brought in Scott to help with ceiling demolition.

I feel like someone just walked up to me with a smile and sucker punched me.
I can NOT begin to tell you about the good times I had at all the Local H shows there.
Jamie.....you know what Im talking about. From Scott punching the ceiling....to the old guy that was at every show.....to the countless shots and cold beers that flowed through my veins. uugghh. Regardless of where I am ..............my next drink will be dedicated to the shows at the Khyber.

I never went there but I can relate to your guys' pain. In New Britain, CT there used to be a club called The Sting. EVERYONE would stop there on their way through from NYC to Boston or vice versa. Saw a lot of great shows there - Helmet, Green Day, Weezer, Live, Letters to Cleo, etc. all in the 90's when the bands were in their prime, or just starting out in the case of Weezer. Nobody knew who Green Day was when I saw them at The Sting, it was just before Dookie blew up at radio - or that happened between when I got tickets and the show. So there were a lot of jealous fuckers that couldn't go, it was kind of comical because my high school was full of jam band hippie types. So I didn't get why they were so upset that I was going to see GD and they weren't. Thought they'd want to catch the Phish show instead. No offense to any Phish fans here, but I used to get a little bit of negative attention for liking Green Day until they were huge, then people laid off, of course.

Anyway, what was once where The Sting stood is some strip mall now. They didn't even keep the building intact, they knocked it down and completely rebuilt the whole thing. The building even faces a different direction. I hate driving by there to this day and it's been closed/torn down for a long time.

So yeah, although I've never been to the Khyber, seeing a club that you love close down, and have fond memories of, definitely sucks.

I saw 3 shows there, and as much as I support small, long-standing clubs, I have to admit Ive never really "enjoyed" a show there as much as other venues. Its always so cramped, hot and uncomfortable. It doesnt help Im usually always recording (so it wouldn't affect you all the same way), but I wont be sad to never see a show there again.

Plus the sound usually always sucked.

Ill miss The Call in Providence more. That place sounded terrific and was great.

This is really a shame. I'm sure the band will miss The Kyber.

On the flip side, the Rock in Maplewood, MN also closed. Whooo! Thank God, I hated that place (even though the show that Matt's black & white picture of Scott is from was one of the best shows I've been to). I'm bangin' the Turf Club and Entry drums now...

I know John's probably with me on the Turf. Rekadon, what do you think? Actually Station 4 kinda works for them too.

A little while ago, some Whaler Nation group on facebook posted a pic that was a sheet of rough sketches/ideas from the artist that was given the task of designing the Whalers' logo when they came into the NHL. Obviously the logo they went with was on there in different forms, but I really liked this one. They were all in black and white, so I have no idea if this was meant to be all green or not. I just think it looks better all green. It's a shame this logo never made it past that group of sketches.

Don't forget the Triple Rock Social Club and 400 Bar as well.

I live closer to the 400 and Triple Rock but would be just fine driving to st paul for a turf club or a station 4 show. Glad no more Maplewood road trips for sure. Random: Bunkers for Scott Lucas and the MM?

The only reason why I think I've heard of the Kyber is from this board. You know if H repeatedly plays a venue its got some sort of character, good or bad!
